  • Can't connect to Maple T.A. website.

The Maple T.A. server is down or unavailable. The system is unavailable on from Fridays 3-4pm for routine maintenance. It is rare that the server will be down unexpectedly outside the regularly scheduled maintenance period.

  • Account/Login problems.

If you don't know what your password has been set to, please check your course website for details.

If you have forgotten your password or are having other account issues, please contact the MFCF Instructional Support Coordinators for Technical assistance. Please include your proper name, Student ID#, username, and the course that your question pertains to.

  • How do I view my marks?

Login to Maple T.A. and go to the course for which you want to lookup your marks. Under the Gradebook menu, select View Past Results. Select the name of the assignment/quiz and click the Submit button. You'll be given a list of all your attempts for that quiz. Click on Details to see the detailed feedback and marking of a particular attempt.

  • Why don't my quiz marks appear in LEARN?

LEARN and Maple T.A. are completely separate systems, and so too are the Gradebooks on these systems. Your instructor may or may not transfer Maple T.A. quiz marks to LEARN. To view your marks in Maple T.A., see the previous FAQ item How do I view my marks? If you have a question/concern about your grades, speak to your instructor.

  • Warning message about an active quiz.

The message you see looks something like this:

You have an active assignment in the system.

    Explanation:
In your previous session, you were working on the "......" assignment, which was not graded before you logged out.

To continue, you must select one of the following options:

You can have only one active quiz at a time.

If you finished a quiz by clicking Quit & Save or just by closing the window, and not by clicking Grade, then the quiz is still considered active in the system. You must Grade it before you can start another quiz. Choose one of the three options to continue. You might want to double-check your marks and available attempts before making a selection.

  • If I print my quiz for offline work, does that use one of my attempts?

Working offline by printing your quiz, does not use up one of your attempts. Submitting your quiz for marking by clicking Grade is what uses up one of your attempts.

  • Security warning when completing a quiz.

The message you see looks something like this:

What causes this warning to appear? If you are accessing Maple T.A. from a computer that is off-campus, this is probably happening because of the connections from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

For example, many apartment buildings offer free Internet. Since a substantial amount of a typical online session doesn't actually require you to be connected, an apartment can pay for a limited number of channels that are dynamically swapped around during live sessions as needed. While you are completing a quiz, if you take a few minutes to work out an answer, your IP address could be swapped to another user in your building who needs the connection. Then when you try to submit your answer, you are assigned a new IP address so that you can send your response to Maple T.A. Maple T.A. sees the changed IP address during your session as a security risk, and you get the warning message.

Our advice? To eliminate this problem, you'll need to speak to your ISP and/or your Building Manager to see if you can be assigned a static IP address. Speak to your instructor about getting Proctor Authorization for the quiz with the Security Warning. To avoid the problem, use a computer on campus to complete your quizzes.

  • Error message when previewing a math answer.

The Preview button beside a math entry field doesn't always work. You may get an error message such as "The character < cannot be used in a formula" or the expression may not be properly displayed in 2D mathematics. This is a known bug with the Previewer and it has been reported to Maplesoft.

Just be sure to follow the Quick Reference sheet.

    In particular, use

    • exp(...) for e^,
    • angle brackets < > for vectors and matrices, and
    • I for the imaginary number i.

They may not all preview properly, but these are the proper formats so that your answer is marked correctly.

And note that you can do the MapleTA Ready? quiz as many times as you like to practice to make sure that you've got it right.
